Noble winder for the money - and display, to boot!
I have a army of automatic watches and multi-winders in which they're stored when not worn. However, my prize is the Rolex Datejust SS & Gold ingots watch my late father wore. While it is too precious to wear except on very special occasions, I did not desire it locked away in a big cabinet with all of the others. This handy winder with the viewport was the perfect answer.It sits proudly on my credenza in my reading, so that I can see the watch whenever I want - and the wonderful memories it evokes. True, it does make a trace sound when rotating. However, for me it is a reminder to let my gaze wonder over to the watch, so the "noise" - such as it is - is a hand-out.The slow speed of the winder and the automatic "1-hour-on-and-3-hours-off" helps safeguard against overwinding. Works, until it doesn't. If you can solder... it's a caretaker.
Had this winder for about two years. It stopped working after about a year, and I ratiocination that was it - get what you pay for. But I refused to buy a 2nd one, or a more expensive one. So I opened it up (to seemingly find nothing wrong), smacked it around and left it in the garage ("dog clan") for a month, and it started working again... for a few months, then it didn't, again. Finally, I thought I had nothing else to evade, so I opened it up again. This time I saw the problem. The control chip had one of the wires that were soldered to it that was gradually hope off. This time, it had completely broken off, and wasn't connected to the solder point. The wires are insubstantial, but whatever. I re-stripped the wire, soldered it back on, and now it's working like new again. Until, I imagine, the internal movements induce something else to wear down.

I own six diplomat winders including this dollop gem. It spins a 270 gram watch with no difficulty. I have had mine for four months and keep it near my bed. The movement is soundless and runs like a champ. I have had personal property success with the diplomat brand of winders as oppossed to the problems some have had with the more expensive brands. A extraordinary piece of furniture this is not. It just does the job of keeping your watches wound. Watches with a max band width of 26mm and 50mm encase width should fit.

Works swell for most watches, cannot beat the price
This works hair-splitting for most of my watches including rolex and other heavy style watches, submariner and president are fine. I also find it to be fine with other high-priced watches. The trick is your watch has to be wound up before placing it into the winder. If you have not worn the watch and place it in the winder and demand it to be wound up, it will not work, wind your watch, wear it and then put in the winder, it will be fine. If not, it will run down after some time and frustrate the purpose of the winder. These only last a couple years, so figure on having to replace every 2 or three years, they are perhaps not powerful enough for the heavy gold watches, but you can buy 5 of them or 10 to 15 years worth for the same price as the up-market winders that also wear out after a few years.

Works well. Frustrating if you have heavy watches...
Like many other populace here have suggested, your watch needs to be wound BEFORE placing it in the winder.Anyone who is knocking the watch winder because it's nasty is clearly an idiot. You can't complain about how something is cheap and plastic when you bought the item because it IS cheap and compliant. That's a complaint with your wallet, not the winder. The winder works perfectly for almost all of my higher end watches, which is good insomuch as my Big Bang has trouble winding in a $300 Orbita.The only problem with the winder is that any watch over 6 oz. is too massive for the plastic clips that hold the watch in place. As it spins, the watch will jostle around making a very Maddening knocking sound. Now its not a loud noise, but it is noticeable in a quiet space like my tramp in closet. I'm only in there for a few minutes at a time which is why I gave it a 4-star rating. If, however, you plan on putting this in a break you frequent and you have some heavier pieces,...

Fork out the money...
I comprehend several reviews on Amazon and decided this would be perfect for my Seiko Kinetic. The other winders I found were really costly and since I only have one Kinetic watch I did not think i would spend the money. OOPS!Knowing what I know now I should have. This winder (?) is so blasting it would sometimes wake me up at night. I had it on my wooden dresser so I put a pad under it hoping that would deaden the noise. No such luck. It was still too deafening. Then to add insult to injury, after having my Seiko on the winder for a week and a half I went to clothes it and guess what? It was dead. I am writing this let anyone who owns a Kinetic watch know that the noisy/easy rotating of this winder does nothing for the watch. In closing, the moral is; if you have a Kinetic watch that you scantiness to keep running while it is not being worn, "Spend the money" and buy a quality product. Also check with your Jeweler or the Producer to see what winder will work for your watch. "Let the Buyer beware"!

Low-priced, but works perfectly.
I got this to keep my Rolex torture when I went on vacation. I have a knock-around watch I use when I am out of the country and I know it is bad to let a self-winding attend to stop as the oil pools and other bad things can happen.I was a little concerned because it was so cheap, but when I got it and tried it out it was superb. They do recommend getting a power timer and having it only run 4 hours a day to keep it from overwinding . . . since one of those way out times are less than $5, not a big deal. To get one that was completely automatic would have cost 3 times what this one does.It is entirely silent, so you could have it in your bedroom. It only goes one direction, either clock-wise or counter. I consulted with my Rolex pundit and he said either would work . . . also said that it was impossible to overwind any Rolex made after 1972 as they put in a aegis system that stops it from winding more than the spring can take.This is a good buy.

There are all things considered better watch winders on the market
I needed a individual automatic watch winder and didn't want to spend a lot. This fit the bill in that regard. However, it's performance is unequal. I have to fiddle with the plug every time I put the watch in it to make sure it runs. If I don't, there's a good inadvertent it's not going to work right. I would spend a little more and get a different automatic watch winder unless you like having to recognize to play with the plug every day.

spectacular design and quality
I have ordered three of these units. The come in excellent packaging to ensure safe transport. Almost over-packaged. That being said, two of my three units here scratched. It appeared it happened in production.I filed a claim and within 20 minutes I had a call from the cast. They immediately shipped out the replacements.The quality of the watch winders are great. The motor is for all practical purposes silent. The programmable function is super easy to learn and allows you a variety of settings.The piano achieve is very dark and looks great.I also have some watches (Panerai 243) with a very large and thick face. There is plenty of accommodation between the watch housing and the glass door to fit even very large watches.So far, these are great. Money well spent.

Superb piece, surpassed my expectations!
Wonderfully finished and works well. Took a little trial and error to figure out which program would trade with my Rado but works perfectly now. High gloss finish is well done with just a hint of wood jot or tittle showing, colour is warmer than a true ebony finish and will fit in well with any highend furnishings.
